The emergence of the Niger Delta Avengers has been a long anticipated
one due to the poor living conditions in the Oil rich region. The group
would not be the first of its kind in the region. In 2009 the Nigerian
Government granted amnesty to the Niger Delta Militants. who carried out
similar strategic
attacks against
government oil infrastructure in the region. The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), began operation in 2016 and ever since their emergence, they have carried out several devastating attacks on oil infrastructure in the region. Some of the oil infrastructures hit include; (1) Chevron'''s key oil wells 7 and 8 around abiteye flow station in warri south west local government area of the state.
(2) Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation''s (NNPC) crude oil trunk line to warri refinery.
There has also been several other attacks targeting The Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation (NNPC)'s assets, which has affected power supply in the region. The Nigerian Government has deployed troops to the region and still insists it is keeping the room for negotiations open. The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA)'s have also experienced setbacks as their official twitter account has just been suspended.
